First Love

She was sitting in the garden bower
Sitting there like a lost wall flower
So, I walked on over to take a chance
And boldly asked if we could dance
She took my hand, I began to float
Right from the very first note
Driven by something deep within
It happened when the beat kicked in

Though we didn’t have much to say
Content just to let the music play
We could feel a bond growing strong
We could feel it grow as the beat played on
It was if we were both plugged in
The whole damn world began to spin
And as I drowned deep in her eyes
You could feel the ‘static’ rise

It’s quite wrong you should presume
It was all because of Fred’s mushroom
For although both in a trance
With the beat let our feet just dance
We waltzed on all around the floor
At the music end and called for more
I don’t know if I should gloat
To fall in love from the very first note

We could have danced all the night
Right on through ‘till the morning light
Then along came the waning moon
Ending it all, way too soon, Yeah
I woke up happy, on the next day
And set off singing, on my way
My mind still humming the silly tune
My head still swimming in her sweet perfume.
Oh Yeah!

Then I overheard old Fred say
As we wandered off to school that day
‘Hey, look at Joe - What a tool!
There goes that love struck fool’
Behind my back they began to laugh
As I headed up the College path
Not knowing, this light lampoon
Was my first love’s epitaph.
