A Little Refugee

(instrumental prelude)

Another cold and gloomy morning
Another God forsaken day
All around us
Desolate and grey
So little there for our dinner
Is there anything for tea

Papa’s somewhere out there scrounging
Like a thousand others too
What else can they do
Scratching through the barren ground
Where gardens once grew
Anything to see them through

Fighting for a pail of water
Just for the basics of the day
Oh! why did all the soldiers come
And take my home away
Left the only legacy
A painful memory

Why is Mamma crying
She says there’s no milk for baby
Can’t you see she’s starving
And there’s nothing I can do
No, not anybody knew
I know the world is watching
Won’t they help to see us through

Why did they bomb all our houses
Strip the apples from our tree
As for those invaders
Where is the humanity
All I see around me
Are scenes of misery

(instrumental break)

Eking out an existence
Just struggling to survive
Not thinking of a future
Or who I hoped to be
There isn’t any supper
Why has my God forsaken me.
