Humbug the Christmas Donkey

(Instrumental intro)

Among the fondest memories
From days in PNG
Thought was meant in jest
Told over a beer or three

A Mate from the Highlands
Came to visit by the sea
Always good to catch up
And share good company

He said he had found us
Just the thing for me
The boys will love it
Just you wait and see

We woke Christmas morning
And out in the street
Someone was playing ‘Jingle Bells’
It sounded ‘kinda’ sweet

We opened up the curtains
And there to our surprise
We saw a jolly Santa Claus
Or was it Lawrie in disguise

Whistling while unloading
Something from the deck
Some long eared creature
A red ribbon round it’s neck

It’s a little donkey
HUMBUG! I cried
Yes, a Christmas donkey
That once took Mary on her ride
All the way to Bethlehem
With Joseph by her side
There at the Nativity
Of her precious Saviour child

And so by the telling
I’m sure you can see
How Humbug became
A part of the family

(Instrumental break)

And it came to be each Christmas
As we gathered round the tree
Humbug would come, complete the scene
Standing where a manger, once had been
Baby Jesus and His little donkey

Oh! How we miss our little Donkey.
