A Long Time Ago

(instrumental Intro}

I read it in the history books
A long time ago
Of an endless quest for conquest
And subjugation of the foe
Of peoples held in bondage
With no place to go

(instrumental pause)

Then came the explorers
Because they wanted more
To set out and desecrate
What lay beyond their shore

This all was happening
A Long time ago
Throughout the course of history
It was ever so
All because a band of …
False prophets and kings
Wanted to control the world
Subject it to their whim

Before the turn of the century
Things looked pretty grim
A new global conflict
Was stirring from within
And so it came to pass
They fought two great wars
Intending forever
To settle old scores

I woke up one morning
It was not long ago
Some latter day tyrant
Decreed ‘Off to war we go’
Four years of fighting
They maintained the ‘Status quo’
Along the way to sacrifice
A million souls or so

(Instrumental break)

If I were to raise a family
To watch my children grow
To live in peace and harmony
And to make it so
Leave as a legacy
Don’t worry ... you know
It all happened
A long time ago

Sleep well my darling
I want you to know
This all happened
A long time ago.
