Our World of Yesterday

It seems like only yesterday
That the world lay at our feet
Setting out to blaze a trail
Life’s challenges to meet
When dreams, and opportunity
Our heart showed the way -
Too late to change now
The times it led astray.

With our hard fought freedom
We forged those trails ahead
Not prepared, we know now
To where those paths had led
Because we're in a hurry
There was neglect, it's true
Wet noticed not, how time
Too fast, past by us flew.

Living now a quiet life
Old ambitions put on hold
Perhaps with some embellishment
Past adventures are retold
Sometimes we reflect on
Life values lost along the way
So was the world a better place
Than the one we leave today?

The years have passed on by
And the pace of life slowed down
In the hope new generations
Have their feet set on the ground
For it is our children
Who must lead the way
Lamenting still - they not know
Our world of Yesterday.

(instrumental break)

The years have passed on by
The pace of life slowed down
In the hope new generations
Have their feet set on the ground
For it is our children
Now lead the way
Lamenting still - they not know
Our world of Yesterday.
