Waiting

Waiting through the overture
I was waiting for act one to begin
Waiting for the curtain rising
And the Players to come and enter in

And there on the stage
As the house lights dimmed
Sittig there all forlorn
Was the lovely heroine
Pining the while
With a sad soliloquy
Telling of forbidden love
That never was to be

Held there as the ward
A captive
Of the cruel Duke Duprey
Without honour
This man was known
For his depravity
Whatever could be done?
To ever set her free

Now I’m waiting for the curtain
And the final act to play
Certain that our hero
Would come and save the day
HOORAY!
He swung through the window
Duprey’s men blocked the way
Too many swords, cut and overpowered him
‘Till at her feet he lay

She leapt from her window
And ended it that way
And so, the curtains slowly fall
And I’m waiting once again
Just waiting for a curtain call
To see her again.
